A Create-O-Bot is a custom-built structure designed and constructed by participants on top of a remote-controlled vehicle. Using a simple base (a structured shell attached to an R/C car), students transform their ideas into functional designs built for competition.

Participants use a variety of materials—such as foam plates, cups, string, wooden skewers, and more—to engineer solutions that can pop balloons, knock out targets, and interact with opponents in a controlled arena.

Each Create-O-Bot is unique, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning through design and experimentation.

Through building and competition, participants directly explore key concepts in physical science, including force, motion, stability, and energy transfer.

As students test their designs, they learn how:

force affects movement and impact

balance and structure influence performance

speed and direction change outcomes

collisions and contact forces affect results

These hands-on experiences align with Tennessee State Standards for Physical Science, helping students apply classroom concepts in a real-world, engaging environment.

Each session is built around the engineering design process, giving students the opportunity to think and work like engineers.
